Lifehouse – Everything Skit!

Today’s Quote of the Day was talking about the importance of perseverance. It is true with any area of your life, that in order to have any major breakthrough, you are going to have to consistently make an effort and persevere for as long as it takes to experience the desired result.

In our Spiritual Walk we are constantly faced with sinful temptations from the World we live in. It is so easy to give in to those temptations. I wanted to post a video that has made a huge impact in my day to day walk with the Lord. Every time I am feeling beat up by the World, I resort to this video and it always gets me back on track.

Remember our quote of the day says, “Great works are performed not by strength but by perseverance.” – Samuel Johnson

Continue to walk by faith and not by sight. Keep your eyes on the goal and persevere through all of life’s temptations! I hope you enjoy this video, as it has blessed us, and I am sure it will do the same for you.

The Feeling of Satisfaction

What exactly does satisfaction stand for? One definition is, “the contentment one feels when one has fulfilled a desire, need, or expectation” and another, “anything that brings gratification, pleasure, or contentment.” A state of mind or feeling of accomplishment is how I like to describe it!

Perhaps you woke up early today, read your bible, prepared breakfast for your wife, helped get the kids off to school, went to work, sold a record number of contracts, came home and celebrated by taking the family out to dinner, then a movie! At the end of your day, you lay in bed with a smile on your face, a feeling of satisfaction running through your veins, as you just completed an incredible day. That feeling is one to strive for everyday in all that you do!

To me it signifies that you performed at your very best. You gave it everything you had! The best sleep you will ever get is when you feel satisfied with your days performance.

So, how are you doing with this in your day to day life? Are you giving your best effort at everything you do? How about that job you might not like, do you still go out of your way to do your very best?

One of the worse sayings I have ever heard is, “I work only hard enough not to get fired, and the boss pays me just enough so that I won’t quit.” Anyone with an attitude like that is surely not giving their best! By not giving your best, you are only robbing yourself of the satisfaction that comes from knowing you gave it your all.

When you go to sleep at night, can you honestly say that you left nothing on the table? This doesn’t necessarily mean you accomplished every goal you set for yourself, however, it does mean you put forth your best effort!

Don’t try, DO! Have a satisfying day.

Remembering Winnie…

Today was a day of mixed emotions. A day that will be remembered by many for the rest of their lives. As we gathered together this afternoon in Portage, Michigan at Cornerstone Pentecostal Church to celebrate the life of Winifred G. Maynard (1930-2010).

Let me first start by sharing with you the woman I met only a few months ago. My wife Melisa and I visited Cornerstone Church in search of a church that we could call home. On our first Sunday visit we were welcomed openly by a gentleman named Steve Maynard. His warm welcome made us feel right at home. After service, while we were awaiting to leave and getting to know some of the others at the church, we were approached by a sweet, older lady, who told us her name was Winifred Maynard, “people call me, Winnie,” she said.  Winnie had the sweetest smile and a lot of really good, positive energy flowing from her as she welcomed us to her church. We enjoyed her presence so much that we must’ve chatted for close to 20 minutes. Before we said our goodbye’s, her son Steve, came over and again thanked us for coming to visit the church and invited us back. I cannot say that Steve and his mother Winnie were the only reasons we decided to return to Cornerstone, however, they sure did make a lasting impression that we will always remember.

Every weekend from that point forward, when Winnie and I spoke to one another, she was so full of energy, and always smiling. She was my connection to what was happening in Major League Baseball, as it turned out she was a huge Detroit Tigers fan. Myself, being that of a Red Sox fan, could appreciate her love for the game. I remember one weekend when the Red sox were swept by the Tigers and Winnie was quick to give me all the details! :-)

Though I only knew Winnie for a few short months, and her passing came suddenly, I can say that she made an impression on my life that will never be forgotten!

Today, as we celebrated her life, family and friends gathered to share memories of a great woman, friend, mother, and grandmother. If I could summarize Winnie, based on the testimonies that were shared today, in just one word, it would be “Love.” Everyone that shared today spoke on her willingness to give, time and time again, to others. Especially her family! It was obvious that she had made an impact in many lives and will be remembered always!

“I know the plans I have for you, ’says the lord.’ They are plans for good and not for disaster, to give you a future and a hope. In those days when you pray, I will listen. If you look for me in earnest, you will find me when you seek me.” Jeremiah 29:11-13

If there is one thing I can say about our church family, they sure do love the Lord. That love could be felt today, as all who were in attendance shared tears of joy, and tears of sadness, together, while we rejoiced on Winnie’s returning to spend eternity with the Lord. There is an emptiness that is being felt here in a physical sense, yet a happiness in knowing that Winnie has returned to Heaven to be with Jesus in a spiritual sense.

“Weeping may endure for a night, but joy comes in the morning.” Psalm 30:5

To the family of Winifred G. Maynard, our thoughts and prayers are with you. Winnie lived a great life, 80 wonderful years she spent here on Earth and cherished being with all of you all of her days. As Winnie leaves her Earthly body, and her soul is reunited in Heaven for eternity, I hear her say to all of you, “Until we meet again.” Thank God for His promises!

“Lord, make me an instrument of your peace; where there is hatred, let me sow love; where there is injury, pardon; where there is doubt, faith; where there is despair, hope; where there is darkness, light; where there is sadness, joy; O divine Master, grant that I may not so much seek to be consoled as to console; to be understood as to understand; to be loved, as to love; for it is giving that we receive, it is pardoning that we are pardoned, and it is in dying that we are born to Eternal Life.”

Thank you Winifred, “Winnie,”  Maynard and family for allowing us to celebrate a wonderful life with all of you today!

Are You Living Up To That Great Calling?

“You have been given a moment in time and a portion of the power of the Almighty to influence, create, and produce something that could benefit the world around you. Are you living up to that great calling?” – Colonel Jeff O’Leary

Take a moment and reflect on what Mr. O’Leary said. Do you believe it is true? Have we all been created for a purpose? Ever since I was a young adult, around about the age of 13, there was a knowing that something great was going to be achieved during  my lifetime. Though I could never place my finger on what it was, I just sensed it was to be so.

“Seek to fulfill your calling, the thing that sparks your spirit, and pursue that passion with all the strength you’ve been given. When you turn back on your days, you will understand the difference between a mundane life spent pursuing money, fame, and power or a magnificent life that served far greater ends.”

What is your calling in life? What is it that sparks your spirit? There is something about being a positive influence, sharing motivating books, and typing inspiring articles that moves my soul. The emails and comments I receive from people letting me know the timing and impact that one of our writings has had in their life is more rewarding than money.

“Money is a poor measure of success. Just take a quick look at some of the greatest artists, scientists, and creative talents in world history and you’ll know this is true – no matter what the culture around you says.”

My dad told me a long time ago to work doing something that I enjoy. He said if you truly enjoy what you do, it isn’t work. Well, there was some wisdom in his words, though I interpret today what he said as this: “Son, what are you passionate about? Whatever that is, pursue it with all your heart, in doing so you will ultimately fulfill your calling in life, and you will enjoy every phase of the journey!”

“Work is the potential to leave behind something greater than ourselves.”

No matter what you do with your life, you will be required to work. Work is not up for debate, however, whether you really love what you are doing, that is a different story. Too many people settle, and accept life as it is. Many will complain about their job, their boss, their colleagues, and so on. These are simply symptoms, or you can call them signs, that you are not going down the right path. Learn to make the best of your current situation, however, also seek to discover your purpose. You are where you are for a reason. Grow from your current circumstances, learn from the people around you, but never stop seeking your calling in life.

President Teddy Roosevelt said, “It is not the critic who counts, not the man who points out how the strong man stumbled, or where the doer of deed could have done better. The credit belongs to the man who is actually in the arena; whose face is marred by the dust and sweat and blood; who strives valiantly; who errs and comes short again and again; who knows the great enthusiasms, the great devotions and spends himself in a worthy cause; who at the best, knows in the end and the triumph of high achievement, and who, at worst, if he fails, at least fails while daring greatly; so that his place shall never be with those cold and timid souls who know neither victory or defeat.”

The greatest leaders were also great risk takers. Stop for a moment and decide if you are willing to become that kind of leader.

We were all created for a purpose!

You’re building a career. You’re doing something you really enjoy… I always tell everybody, give back, give back. Because if you don’t give back, this world is not going to get better. And if you’re fortunate enough to do really well, give more.”
