A mentor of mine once said, “It is not resources you lack but an idea.”
The New Creative Economy
Hmmm, ideas are what create new opportunities. Perhaps this is one of the main reasons every self help or leadership guru always talks about the importance of reading, listening and associating. As we are consistently exposed to the genius behind the ideas of successful men and women who have come before us, it sparks our own creative genius.
We live in one of the most unstable economic times where making money has become a struggle for the average thinker. While most people continue to look for work, it seems the real secret to living in our economy today lies within each of us. If our world doesn’t lack resources, only ideas, what can you bring to the table?
For years I have read books by very successful business men and ironically each of them talk about the struggles and challenges they faced while on their road to wealth. Many spoke of times when they were homeless, living in their car, and others how they ate oodles of noodles for breakfast, lunch & dinner. Yet somehow each of them didn’t allow their temporary setbacks to prevent them from finding their greatness. As a mater of fact, every one of them wrote about how they had to kick and scratch day after day just to survive while they consistently worked on their idea.
Think Outside The Box
Let me illustrate a point. Let us say that you are struggling financially. Perhaps you are a general laborer and there is no work right now. You have very little savings, if any at all, and no idea what you are going to do.
One option is to sit in self pity and worry about your situation. All this is going to do is drive you nuts, evoke negative thoughts and behavior, ultimately leading you to no solution.
On the other hand, what if during that same time of distress you start thinking outside the box. You look around your house and find what you don’t use of value and sell it on craigslist or ebay. At the same time you begin browsing through social media sites looking to see what other people are doing to make money online. Though your situation is still unstable, you are actively engaged in seeking a solution.
Unexpectedly one of your connections through social media finds out that you are a laborer, they live near you needing someone to help them with a job. They contact you and ask if you are interested. Of course, you are. Or, someone responds to one of the ads you have posted looking for work on craigslist. Or, perhaps you start a website/blog and begin adding content which leads to a part time income stream…
Activity Opens Doors
The scenario can go on and on. My point is inactivity creates worry & stress without offering any solutions. However, activity opens doors of opportunity that you can’t see.
Times of uncertainty are not times to sit and do nothing. There is an open door with the answer to your challenges. The Bible clearly states, “Seek and you shall find.” The magic is in seeking!
F.E.A.R. often paralyzes people and prevents them from taking action. You must do something. Whatever you do, never sit idle and hope for a solution. Be active, engage wherever you can and give God the opportunity to work through your situation.
“Ask and it will be given to you; seek and you will find; knock and the door will be opened to you.” – Matthew 7:7 It is like baking a cake. You wouldn’t want to leave out any of the 3 main ingredients. If you did, it would ruin the cake.
Stay Strong & Keep Moving!
My wife loves to say, “Life is like a camera, what you focus on will develop.” Focus on the solution not the problem. Though you might not know where to start, start somewhere, and do something!
“Take the first step in faith. You don’t have to see the whole staircase, just take the first step.”

I really like that! I’d never considered that scripture from that perspective…as 3 things to do, not just a pick-and-choose.
Hi Jean, thanks for finding us through Blog Frog! I definitely consider that scripture as in 3 steps we should do, and continually until God delivers on His promise. As an example, some one can pray to win the lottery (ask) however, if they never buy a lottery ticket (seek) what is their chance of receiving what they are asking?
