What exactly does satisfaction stand for? One definition is, “the contentment one feels when one has fulfilled a desire, need, or expectation” and another, “anything that brings gratification, pleasure, or contentment.” A state of mind or feeling of accomplishment is how I like to describe it!
Perhaps you woke up early today, read your bible, prepared breakfast for your wife, helped get the kids off to school, went to work, sold a record number of contracts, came home and celebrated by taking the family out to dinner, then a movie! At the end of your day, you lay in bed with a smile on your face, a feeling of satisfaction running through your veins, as you just completed an incredible day. That feeling is one to strive for everyday in all that you do!
To me it signifies that you performed at your very best. You gave it everything you had! The best sleep you will ever get is when you feel satisfied with your days performance.
So, how are you doing with this in your day to day life? Are you giving your best effort at everything you do? How about that job you might not like, do you still go out of your way to do your very best?
One of the worse sayings I have ever heard is, “I work only hard enough not to get fired, and the boss pays me just enough so that I won’t quit.” Anyone with an attitude like that is surely not giving their best! By not giving your best, you are only robbing yourself of the satisfaction that comes from knowing you gave it your all.
When you go to sleep at night, can you honestly say that you left nothing on the table? This doesn’t necessarily mean you accomplished every goal you set for yourself, however, it does mean you put forth your best effort!
Don’t try, DO! Have a satisfying day.

Hi Ron,
I love posts that explore the meaning of worn-out words that seem to have lost their meaning, or are used to refer to different things. Success and happiness can mean different things to different people, so it’s nice to revisit their meaning every now and then, especially when our thinking gets fuzzy around these ideas.
I believe satisfaction has a lot to do with setting realistic expectations, and accepting things *for* what they are, and not *as* they are. I can accept that I’m overweight, and satisfied with the progress I’m making. To accept things as they are, and be content with that puts an end to personal growth, which isn’t healthy at all.
Thanks for the thoughtful post!
Excellent point Haider. I am satisfied with your comment!
Blessings,
